SRI LANKA wrapped up a series victory yesterday which is sure to lead to a big question mark over IndiaeCOs ageing batting line-up.

Mahela Jayawardene played a true captaineCOs role as his half-century, in an unbeaten 101-run stand with Malinda Warnapura, led the hosts past their modest victory target of 122 with a day to spare in the third and final Test, securing a 2-1 series win.India had started the day on 161 for five, with Rahul Dravid (46no) and VVS Laxman (17no) at the crease, looking to build on their lead of 14. Dravid made 68 and Laxman an unbeaten 61, as India did well to reach 268 after fine bowling once more from Chaminda Vaas and Dammika Prasad, as well as the deadly spin duo of Ajantha Mendis and Muttiah Muralitharan.Sri Lanka were toiling on 22 for two at one stage after losing Michael Vandort and Kumar Sangakkara early, before easing home. And winning skipper Jayawardene said: eC[pounds sterling]The guys showed character -Aa especially after the Galle Test. It was an amazing effort. eC[pounds sterling]Our game is coming together now. eC[pounds sterling]The younger players are taking responsibility and the seniors pushed themselves.eC[yen]India skipper Anil Kumble was honest in his appraisal. He said: eC[pounds sterling]It was important to get a good first-innings total but we faltered. The batters were not consistent through the series. They let us down.eC[yen]
