WA: Perth man to be repatriated from Thai jail

A Perth man serving a 10-year jail term in Thailand will be the first Australian prisonerallowed to end his sentence in his home country.

34-year-old JIM DORAN has already spent more than five years in a Thai jail for travellerscheque fraud.

The federal government's announced his repatriation under the International Transferof Prisoners Scheme.

Justice Minister CHRIS ELLISON says DORAN is Australia's first prisoner to be transferredunder a bilateral exchange treaty with Thailand.

DORAN's expected to arrive in Perth on a commercial flight from Thailand tonight, escortedby two West Australian Justice Department officers.

Meanwhile, the West Australian government is considering the applications of four Canadiannationals jailed in the state to be sent home.
